Glenn’s List for Giving Tuesday – Amplify the Peace Corps Community’s Global Impact
Today is Giving Tuesday. I encourage you to participate by supporting your favorite charity. Below are those that I personally support in 2024 and to which I hope you will join me in making a generous donation. They are all (except NMCS) founded and led by returned Peace Corps Volunteers:
Peace Corps Foundation* – It’s time to tell the rest of America’s story of our ongoing commitment to service and global citizenship by creating Peace Corps Park on a National Park Service site near the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The long-term mission of the Foundation is to support Peace Corps community projects.
Chijnaya Foundation – Working in partnership with rural communities in Southern Peru to design and implement self-sustaining projects in health, education, and economic development.
CorpsAfrica* – Building the next generation of African leaders and changemakers, connecting rural communities, and nurturing entrepreneurs. Volunteers work in host communities to identify and solve their most pressing local challenges.
Elevated Up and Out – Unlocking the potential of underprivileged youth by providing access to international travel experiences and opportunities for personal growth through community service projects abroad.
Friends of Guatemala – Funds scholarships and other projects to benefit children and their communities in Guatemala. Promoting cooperation, understanding, and goodwill between the peoples of Guatemala and the United States
Global Seed Savers – Organizes, educates, and mobilizes smallholder and family farmers in creating seed sovereignty and fostering sustainable communities and regenerative ecosystems.
Health Volunteers Overseas – dedicated to improving the availability and quality of health care in resource-scarce countries through the training, mentorship, and education of local health professionals.
Marina Orth Foundation – Improving the education of children and youth from disadvantaged socioeconomic areas. Specializing in STEM with a focus on robotics and technology, English, leadership, and social/emotional skill building.
Museum of the Peace Corps Experience – connecting people around the world to inspire service and peace, showing that our common humanity is more fundamental than the cultures and ideas that separate us.
National Museum and Center for Service* – Reminding America of what we have in common. Honoring service in all it’s forms, celebrating those who do good in their communities, inspiring future generations through service learning.
Peace Corps Worldwide – though not yet a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, you can support our work by pledging a future paid subscription. Funds will be used to pay modest expenses related to website maintenance and book reviews/publishing.
TCP Global* – Ensuring that people have the resources to improve their own lives and communities by establishing sustainable revenue streams for community-based organizations and locally managed, self-sustaining loan pools for entrepreneurs.
Women of Peace Corps Legacy – Advancing women and girls empowerment to create a better, more just, equitable, inclusive and safe world for future generations.
Have a favorite Peace Corps community organization you would like to recommend? Let me know, and I’ll consider adding them to my list for 2025.
May your generosity be your legacy!
In service,
Glenn
