  • Harris Wofford the Giant American and Humanitarian has distinguished himself by participating during the Civil Rights March in Mississippi and to being one of the founders of the Peace Corps Volunteers program that has become a marvel of US policy all over the Third World. I met Harris in Ethiopia at gathering at a Peace Corps’ home in Addis Ababa in 1962 when the Peace Corps Volunteers had just arrived. He had just returned from Uganda representing the United States on the occasion of Uganda’s independence from the British, He told us stories about his short experience there which captured our attention. He was humble and gentle. He served in Ethiopia as the first country director of the Peace Corps Volunteer Program in Ethiopia with honor and distinction. On behalf of the Ethiopians that have met and known him and the significant contribution he has made for the educational system in Ethiopia I express and share the sadness and the sorrow at the passing of this Giant American and Humanitarian. May he rest in Peace and we shall forever remember his contribution to humanity.
