Back from Turkey, with a contract with Peace Corps to recruit from the San Francisco office covering 9 western states. 6 weeks on the road, then a week in San Francisco to do vouchers, reports, recover… etc. Never made it to Hawaii but spent some excellent time in Nebraska, Kansas and Colorado, etc. Confrontation at Stanford with a student who opposed Peace Corps as long as we were fighting in Vietnam!…. had to craft some arguments…. At Colorado State we were opposed by some military recruiters who wanted to debate. All across the territory we found excellent recruits for Peace Corps. Only regret – having to wear a coat and tie…. ONWARD! Ken
Back from Brazil I recruited in the Northeast until spring 1967 when at Boston University the military recruiters were thrown out, so we Peace Corps recruiters were told it was only fair that we be banished as well. I’ve never understood equating Peace Corps with the military.
