Bill Owens : 50th Anniversary Suburbia Collection (Jamaica)
True North Editions : Bill Owens : 50th Anniversary Suburbia Collection
Bill Owens and True North Editions celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the seminal book, Suburbia with this limited edition portfolio, Bill Owens — 50th Anniversary Suburbia Collection. The portfolio was created with the intent of placement in institutional collections, and is available through Scott Nichols Gallery.
This portfolio is comprised of 36 remastered photographs from Suburbia, selected for inclusion in collaboration with Bill Owens. Original negatives were digitized at the highest possible resolution, remaining faithful to the original, and remastered under the supervision of Bill Owens. The printing methods used were selected for the highest archival quality, as well as a desire to reproduce work as closely as possible to the gelatin silver papers of 1972.
From his travels around the globe including a Peace Corps tour in Jamaica (1964-66), Bill Owens developed his unique skills and aptitude as an anthropological and social photographer. His book Suburbia, one of the 100 seminal photography books of the 20th century, captured the change in his home territory with much the same spirit of the traveler that he brought to foreign places. Bill Owens’ work is in museums and collections throughout the world, including the Museum of Modern Art NY, Berkeley Art Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, and the San Jose Museum of Art. He has received a Guggenheim Fellowship and two NEA grants. Also published by True North Editions, his latest book release The Legacy of Suburbia: Photographs 1964-2022 is available in a limited edition of 100 from Scott Nichols Gallery.
