Malawi RPCV Christine Farber Passed Away in May

Christine C. (Milliken) Farber, 98, of Hyannis, MA, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her daughter Diane Carr, and is survived by her daughter, Gale Carr of Hyannis MA, grandchildren Niisa (Rick) Morton of Falmouth MA, Catherine (Donald) Wygal of Sherman Oaks CA, Christian Tyler (Robin) Olander of Portsmouth RI, and Matthew Busek of Las Vegas NV, her great grandchildren Alexia and Christian Tucker Morton, and many nieces and nephews.

Christine graduated from Bourne High School in 1942 and from Sargent College, Boston University in 1946 where she was crowned Miss Sargenta. In 1955 she opened and headed the Cape Cod Hospital Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Department for 32 years. Upon her retirement in 1987, Senator Edward M. Kennedy said “For many of us who live here on Cape Cod, Christine has been THE Cape Cod Hospital. Christine was always there, she always cared.”

After retirement, Christine fulfilled a life-long dream of joining the Peace Corps,serving two years with the Peace Corp in Malawi. In 2004 she wrote a book recounting her amazing experience and love of Africa and its people.

Christine dedicated her entire life to others and in 2012 was recognized by the Barnstable Town Council for her years of faithful and dedicated service to the community. She championed peace and supported youth programs through her involvement with Camp Fire Girls, No Place for Hate, Barnstable Youth Commission, the Peace Committee, and many others.

Gram, Mom, Chris loved her family and friends. She was the first to send a card, was always ready for a game of cards or Scrabble, and loved golf, especially watching Tiger Woods. She never missed Jeopardy, was an avid fan of NCIS, and adored Brad Pitt. She loved Mozart, ballet, modern dance, fashion, and travel.

Christine was a longtime member of the South Congregational Church of Centerville. A Memorial Service will be held at her church this summer. To share a memory or for online condolences,
