Initial appointments to the Peace Corps normally are for 30 months, but may be extended up to 5 years. This position is located in the Office of Communications at the Peace Corps headquarters in Washington, D.C.. The incumbent reports directly to the publications manager and serves as the office’s writer-editor for a variety of publications intended for external and internal audiences. Duties: Develops copy for a variety of materials to be used with a clear understanding of writing for the various audiences that the agency interacts with and this includes but is not limited to the general public, congressional, white house administration, partners, host country, diplomatic, etc. Develops and synthesizes final copy based on material submitted by others. Frequently, is assigned material that requires extensive rewriting, reorganizing, fact checking and editing.Establishes policy for writing style and assures the editorial quality, readability, and appropriate presentation of the materials. Reviews and edits draft materials in terms of their substance, audience, tone, format, consistency, grammar, punctuation, sentence and paragraph structure, and use of appropriate vocabulary.Develops content themes, and writing and editing for a quarterly newsletter that is distributed to all Peace Corps posts.
