CorpsAfrica Hold Event in NYC in Memory of Ambassador Holbrooke

Liz Fanning (Morocco 1993-94) served as a PCV in the High Atlas Mountains, where she lived in a small Berber village and worked on environmental sustainability projects. Since she has come home, Liz has worked in a wide range of non-profit organizations, including the American Civil Liberties Union, Schoolhouse Supplies and the Near East Foundation, and she was a founding Board member and Vice President for six years of the High Atlas Foundation, a nonprofit organized by former Peace Corps volunteers from Morocco.

Then in 2011 she started CorpsAfrica to provide young adults in Africa the opportunity to serve as volunteers in their own countries. CorpsAfrica is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. She is inviting everyone in New York City to a cocktail reception to pay tribute to Ambassador Richard Holbrooke. It is on Wednesday, June 20th from 6 pm-8 pm.

Holbrooke served as Morocco Country Director for the Peace Corps from 1970 to 72. In fact, he said it was the best job he ever had. The Holbrooke Campaign is supporting CorpsAfrica’s pilot program in Morocco, which is set to launch this year. They are inviting friends, colleagues, returned Peace Corps Volunteers, and others who knew him, admired him, and were inspired by him, to support this project in his memory.

Kati Marton was married to Ambassador Richard Holbrooke from 1995 until his death in December 2010. She is the author of seven books, including Enemies of the People: My Family’s Journey to America, a National Book Critics Circle Award finalist and the subject of an upcoming motion picture. Her other books include The Great Escape: Nine Jews Who Fled Hitler and Changed the World and the New York Times bestseller Hidden Power: Presidential Marriages That Shaped Our History, as well as Wallenberg, The Polk Conspiracy, and A Death in Jerusalem. She is an award-winning former NPR and ABC News correspondent. She lives in New York City.

Ambassador Frank G. Wisner‘s diplomatic career spans four decades and eight American presidents. He served as ambassador to Zambia, Egypt, the Philippines, and India during his extensive career in the State Department.  In addition to his role as ambassador to four countries, he served as Under Secretary of Defense for Policy and Under Secretary of State for International Security Affairs. Before joining Patton Boggs LLP as Foreign Affairs Advisor , Ambassador Wisner served as Vice Chairman of External Affairs for American International Group.
