From time to time I’m asked by women where they might turn for help with getting started writing, places they can publish, classes they might attend.
Here are a few suggestions.
She Writes is a new marketplace for women who write. This community is worldwide. They declare they are about, “leveraging social media tools and harnessing women’s collaborative power, She Writes is fast becoming the destination for all women who writes.” Check it out at: www.shewrites.com

Thanks, John. Feel free to ask other women writers too đ There are tons of organizations and for very new writers I recommend the International Women’s Writing Guild (www.iwwg.org). I also recommend reading magazines likes “Poets and Writers” which has a great section in the back for calls to publish.
Over the years I’ve noticed that perhaps as many as 80% of literary agents are women. I don’t know what affect, if any, this has on who gets represented and eventually published. But I’ve always found it interesting that so many agents are women.
