The NPCA Answers…..

NPCA strives to be a trusted leader and convener within the Peace Corps community. Building and maintaining trust requires intentional listening. The Board takes concerns over the workplace environment very seriously and is working to address concerns among the staff and the community. We want to emphasize that NPCA is listening to the voices from all our stakeholders, and we hear that some members of our community are concerned that NPCA is not where we aim to be. No organization is perfect, but we wholly commit to be better.
As such, the Board has taken action to address issues and evolve as needed. Three board task forces have been established to ensure we continue to act as an inclusive leader for the Peace Corps community. Each of these task forces, with clear time-bound objectives, is headed by a member of the NPCA Board of Directors. The three task forces are:
    • The Community Concerns Task Force, which has a mandate to better understand the new concerns that are being raised to the Board’s attention from the staff and community and to propose, within 90 days, appropriate actions for the NPCA Board to take to address these concerns. This committee will catalog the concerns including those related to the work environment that have been raised as well as any others that come to our attention and recommend to the Board a plan of action to address them.
    • The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Policy Task Force, which is tasked to use the previously adopted NPCA DEI Framework to develop an overdue DEI Policy for NPCA that will help promote a positive organizational culture. The draft DEI Policy should be prepared for consideration at the September NPCA Board Meeting.
    • The Communications Task Force is tasked to help NPCA better engage the staff, affiliate groups, donors, grantors, and others in open and greater dialogue with our community as we seek our new NPCA president.
The work of these groups is already underway and the community will be engaged to support these efforts. The outputs will be utilized by the Board to take action and provide direction to ensure that our organization is on the best course to continue to lead the broad Peace Corps community in the future. If you would like to provide input to any of these efforts, please contact president@peacecorpsconnect.org.

  • Maintaining trust…workplace environment…stakeholders…This is jargon. Get me a translator. This doesn’t even relate to the agency goals but rather appears to be what we used to call A.C. (ass-cover). Quick! Buy more toilet paper.

    • Lorenzo,

You are absolutely right. I would urge you and everyone to read the comments on the NPCA page.

      Here is the link: https://www.peacecorpsconnect.org/articles/npca-leadership-transition-announcement

There are over 55 comments, or at least they were still there right now. Scroll all the way down to

Jerr Boschee. He has posted the complete summary from the law firm which did the most recent investigation. it is very interesting and certainly would confirm your opinion.

I have asked the current President of NPCA to post that complete summary so that everyone can read
      it. So far no response.

There is also 20 comments from a William Epstein. He is anti-Peace Corps and anti-NPCA, But, I am beginning to wonder if his attacks are trying to guage how responsive RPCVs are in protecting Peace Corps. I don’t know.

      • The genius and beauty of our justice system is that it is adversarial. Attorneys can and do represent both sides of an issue.

Tell me what you want to find and I’ll find you an attorney who will find it.

        • This is the third time which I have heard that particular comment in regard to NPCA. Do you guys get talking points?

          • I do apologize for my last remark. But. it is something I keep hearing and don’t understand its use.

      • William Epstein appears to be primarily interested in trolling PC, NPCA and the Kennedy family. But he makes one useful comment. We, the rank and file membership of NPCA deserve transparency.

I have never met Glen Blumhorst, but from the online comments I’ve seen, he seems to be very respected. If in fact he took some actions which merit him being summarily dismissed, we all deserve to know what they were. So far we have vague accusations from folks unwilling to give us details. Either tell us what led to his firing or reinstate him.

In general I am inclined to believe women who make accusations of misconduct against powerful men, but they must go public, not just toss out anonymous accusations.

  • Well, for me this post reveals my “out-of-it-ness”
because the terms and work idioms
(that I guess are used in recent decades)
must be current enough “cover-up” terms
    unenlightening me while suggesting that
    someone may be a scumbag
    (or IS a dissembling’s afoot?) .

In the background to this sort of thing is the decades-old song ‘TAKE ME BACK TO CONSTANTINOPLE./ NO, YOU CAN’T GO BACK TO CONSTANTINOPLE,,,,/,,,,/ …./ UR;A BIVIST;A VYAUBWAA VYR RGW RYEJA/ (“iT’S NOBODY’S BUSINESS BUT THE TURKS.”)….’

There is a bit of fantasy involved in these upheavals and sadnesses suggesting Roger Zelanznhy’s A NIGHT IN THE LONESOME OCTOBER (that quotes a line borrowed from E. A. Poe’s ULALUME ballad of close to 200 years ago now haunting and bloating)..

Edward Mycue, Ghana One, musing or meditating and smelling these winds past midnight this June 24, 2022 Friday, very early….

  • That answer does not address our issue of dismissing Glenn Blumhorst. It’s a political smoke screen. Actually, Glenn sent me some of the correspondence from his erstwhile accusers which impressed me as being not very credible. And we all have to see that correspondence and meet the accusers and find out what is going on behind the smoke screen.
