  • Ron Bell. July, 1962 -1965 Peace Corps Volunteer – Ethiopia. Instrumental music program at Waizero Siheen Secondary School in Dessie, Ethiopia , including45 member marching band, and a 15 member Ethiopian dance orchestra. Harris Wofford came to me and asked me to serve as African Liaison Officer in the Office of Volunteer Support at Peace Corps Headquarters in Washington,D.C. 1965-66, with responsibility for responding to requests for assistance from Peace Corps Volunteer serving in Africa. 1966–1967 I was asked to serve as Ethiopian Operations Officer in the Africa Region of the Peace Corps. Responsibility for supporting all program, training, and administrative functions of the Peace Corps program in Ethiopia; interviewing staff candidates; participating in contracting and designing of training programs for Ethiopia. 1967-1968 I was named Deputy Chief of East and Southern Africa Division of the Africa Region of the Peace Corps, supporting Peace corps Volunteers and programs in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanganyika, Uganda, Malawi, Mauritius, Botswana, Lesotho, and Swaziland, 1968-1969-I became Chief of the West Africa Division, Africa Region of the Peace Corps. Countries served were Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ghana, and Gambia. I was privileged to have been able to travel to these West African countries during my years of Peace Corps service. 1969-1970- Chief of East,West, and Southern Africa Division, Africa Region Peace Corps.
    Having served under Harris Wofford these years in the Peace Corps endeavor, I have such great respect and affection for this man and his many contributions. My condolences to his family. It is with regret that my health does not permit my joining in the celebration of his life. Thank you, Harris, for your life of service. Ron Bell
