The Call looks at the role of the spirit in the life and work of one of the most accomplished American peacebuilders of the 20th twentieth century, Robert Sargent Shriver (1915-2011), founder of the Peace Corps and architect of the War on Poverty. Author Jamie Price knew Shriver personally and served as the Founding Director of several programs dedicated to understanding and advancing Shriver’s approach.

Judith Guskin (Thailand 1961-64)

Judith Guskin (Thailand 1961-64)

Judith Guskin holds an MA in Comparative Literature and a PhD in Educational Psychology with a focus on history, anthropology, linguistics, and cultural diversity from the University of Michigan. She contributed to the establishment of the Peace Corps and VISTA programs, and has taught and conducted research at various universities worldwide. Guskin has been recognized for her contributions to bilingual education, Southeast Asian integration, and Native American language preservation.

In retirement, she researched conflicts between Native Americans and English settlers in New England and authored a novel, Longing to be Free: The Bear, The Eagle and The Crown, addressing historical and contemporary issues.

Jamie Price – Director Sargent Shriver Peace Institute

Jamie Price is the Founding Director of the Sargent Shriver Peace Institute (SSPI). Having been with SSPI since its inception in 2006, he has developed its programming and organizational systems, including its mission, research agenda, applied initiatives, and program partnerships.

Jamie holds several academic posts, including those of research professor and Founding Director of the Insight Conflict Resolution Program in the School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University, and affiliate professor in the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies at the University of Malta. He serves on the board of the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, and writes articles and essays for a range of scholarly and popular publications.

Jamie holds a Ph.D. from the Divinity School of the University of Chicago.
