Thanks to the ‘heads up’ from Susan Zawalich
The Institute of Politics was proud to host a Summer Celebration in Washington, D.C. for students interning in public service and to welcome Harvard’s new President, Lawrence S. Bacow, for one of his first public events since assuming his duties as the 29th President of Harvard.
President Bacow spoke powerfully about the importance of public service and the significant role the IOP played in his life as a joint degree student at the Kennedy School and Law School. He fondly recalled the conversations he enjoyed about politics and ideas at the IOP, and commended current Harvard undergraduates for their commitment to the public good. The special night at the National Portrait Gallery welcomed Harvard alumni serving in Congress, former IOP students and fellows, Senior Advisory Committee members and more than 300 current Harvard students interning in Washington, many of whom are being funded by IOP.
We’ve put together a highlight video of the event, and I really hope you take a look:
As someone who was the beneficiary of an IOP summer intern stipend while working for my congressman when I was an undergraduate, I was particularly inspired by today’s students and the way their internship experience informs their commitment to public service and engaged citizenship.
In addition to the video, we also wanted to share our photo album from that night. You can click here or click the image below to see those pictures. Error! Filename not specified. Click here to see our photo album of pictures from our event in Washington, D.C. with President Bacow.
Please have a look at our new video highlight of the celebration, some photos and an article from the Harvard Gazette. And let us know what you think and share the videos and photos on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube and tag @HarvardIOP.
As we wind down the summer, we are looking forward to a great 2018-2019 academic year and can’t wait to share it all with you.
