W. Dennis Grubb
Member of Colombia One group of Peace Corps Volunteers (1961-1963), Dennis peacefully entered into eternal rest on October 25, 2021. The Peace Corps, education, global development, and the church have propelled his lifelong service to help others in developing nations on five continents.  “I have worked in 23 countries, which included some of the world’s poorest nations. I experienced suffering and plain simple happiness first hand. I have left many of these countries leaving behind most of my belongings, as I felt the poor people needed my clothes and shoes more than I did.” (sermon St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, 2014). Sargent Shriver, the first Peace Corps director called him “one of the first and one of the best” Peace Corps Volunteers. In 1964, Senator Hubert Humphrey recognized Dennis’s work, saying that it was “due largely to your efforts that the appropriation for the Peace Corps was obtainable.” He advocated on Capitol Hill for Peace Corps funding and legislative issues all his life. He is survived by sister, Marcia Grubb, Gordy Rogers; and partner, Ana Carmen Neboisa.  Having traveled to 60 countries, Dennis saw the world as a place where people are more alike than different, all wanting the same things for their loved ones: freedom and the chance to live a peaceful, decent life. He humbly did his part to realize this ideal. Peace Corps community and friends are invited to celebrate his life on November 16, 2021, 12 p.m., at the Washington National Cathedral, 3101 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20016. Interment will follow at the Historic Congressional Cemetery, Washington, DC. Contributions may be made in his honor to the National Peace Corps Association, 1825 Connecticut Ave NW #800, Washington, DC 20009. www.mcguire-services.com
