Peter Navarro (Thailand 1972-75) was one of only three senior White House officials by President Trump’s side from the 2016 campaign to the end of the president’s first term in office. Always moving In Trump Time as was his signature, Dr. Navarro said he was the first to sound the alarm within the West Wing about the pandemic. He played, he writes, a pivotal role in the rapid development of both vaccines and therapeutics like Remdesivir. As Defense Production Act Policy Coordinator, Navarro was at the center of ramping up domestic production of critically needed Personal Protective Equipment while helping President Trump insure that every American who needed a ventilator had a ventilator.

Dr. Navarro served as an Assistant to the President and the Director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy. He would play a key role in helping President Trump create nearly half a million manufacturing jobs while saving our shipyards and strengthening our defense industrial base. When the pandemic from Communist China attacked America in 2020, Navarro would serve as the Defense Production Act Policy Coordinator. He would play a pivotal role in securing a travel plan on China in January 2020, a courageous action by the president but saved hundreds of thousands and perhaps millions of lives.

Dr. Navarro holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tufts University, a Master’s in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government, and a PhD in Economics from Harvard University. An accomplished author, Dr. Navarro has published more than a dozen books on economic and foreign policy. His China trilogy – The Coming China Wars (2006), Death by China (2011), and Crouching Tiger (2015) – established him as one of the leading scholars and experts on Communist China and its war of economic aggression against American businesses in America’s working class.

Prior to joining the White House, Professor Navarro taught macroeconomics and public policy at the University of California-Irvine. A recipient of UCI’s Distinguished Faculty Award for Teaching, Professor Navarro was a pioneer in online learning dating back to the 1990s, and more than a million students around the world in more than 140 countries have taken his classes.

  • “In his book bio, Peter does not mention that he was once a Peace Corps Volunteer.” …. Thank the gods for small favors!!!

  • More a question that a comment. The note says that Navarro had a ‘plan’ for China… was that not meant to be a ‘ban’ rather than a plan… for it was a travel ban that might be thought to have led to a saving of lives.

  • I note that the above laudatory review leaves out Mr. Navarro’s role in partnering with Steve Bannon to develop “the Green Bay Sweep” plan to overthrow the election of Joe Biden and keep Trump in office despite losing the election by 7 million votes and sixty electoral college votes.

RPCV Navarro may be all the laudatory things the above review says (was it written by his publicist?), though I am not certain that his trade policies with China did us any good—the tariffs caused American farmers to lose a major soybean and wheat market—wsre the farmers and agricorportions were compensated with $28 billion of taxpayer money but China paid no tariffs.

Has someone else in the RPCV world read Navarro’s book and can give us a more balanced review? The above hagiography does not impress me

  • This a book review? Who wrote this tripe? Sean Hannity? The very first sentence that mentions Navarro’s being at Trump’s side to the end of his “first term” is a dead give away for self-serving flackery.A first term implies there’s a second term. I thought RPCVs wrote up these reviews, but no author is cited here.

  • It was not a book review. It was the Amazon summary (from the publisher) of the book posted on Amazon. Not a review of the book by our website.

  • Peter Navarro appeared on the Ari Melber MSNBC show and was interviewed, at length about his book, Neither man concealed their dislike for one another, but it was an important interview. Nararro reavealed exactly what the plan was for last January 6th. He called it the Green Bay Packers play and Pence was to be the quarterback. It was critical to the success of the plan that Pence stop the Electoral College count on the grounds he had conflicting information about the certification of votes from disputed states. If the votes from those states were discounted, there would not be enough votes, 270, for anyone to be the winner. In that case, the election would be decided by the House of Representatives, which each state would have ONE vote. The Democratics held the majority of the sits in the House of Representatives, but the Republicans had more states. Therefore, Trump would have won. Navarrio was very angry that Pence refused to go along with the plan.

Parts of the interview can be seen on YouTube.

    • As a Packer’s owner (I bought a share of their stock.) I am deeply offended that Navarrio labeled the attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election the “Green Bay Packers play”. As far as I know no Packers players or owners were involved! And I nominate Mike Pence an honorary Packer for refusing to participate.

  • Are you kidding? This Trumper who brags that “… he played a key role in helping President Trump create nearly half a million manufacturing jobs while saving our shipyards and strengthening our defense industrial base…” sounds as delusional as a “Proud Boy.”

  • I read Peter’s book. I also knew Peter in Thailand. He documents some of his Peace Corps accomplishments on page 50, but I don’t know how much of what he wrote is true. It was Peter who arrived at my table at a cafe and told me it was time for me to leave because I was dragging everybody else down. Back then he acted as if he represented Peace Corps volunteers and now he thinks he represents Americans. He’s a pretty smart guy, but I think he has a way of twisting the truth and embellishing his own accomplishments. In his book he uses Science Magazine as a source to document that the results of Phizer’s covid trials were delayed so Trump wouldn’t get any credit for the vaccine. He says that if that hadn’t happened, Mr. Trump would have probably won the election. He didn’t say which issue of Science magazine he was using as a source, but the only article I found in Science magazine about the delay of Phizer’s covid trial results was their rebuttal of that accusation. In fact, I wrote to Peter about that. I also told him I think he should honor his subpoena and appear before the congressional covid committee which is different from the January 6 committee. So far as I know, he wasn’t subpoenaed for the Jan. 6 committee. Peter’s address, the one Congress uses, in case anyone else wants to write him:
