This blog continues the tradition of  the website Peace Corps Writers, as well as that of its precursor, the newsletter RPCV Writers & Readers. The purpose of all three is at the heart of the Third Goal of the Peace Corps — to “bring the world back coynebeilhome.” Publicizing the writings of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs), all their novels, short stories, essays and poetry is a positive way of educating Americans about the world, an essential Peace Corps Third Goal activity. Since 1989, the newsletter, the site, and now the blog have provided a link between the cultures of the world and our culture.

Editor John Coyne (Ethiopia 1962–64) and publisher Marian Haley Beil (Ethiopia 1962–64) also strive to present examples of successful — as well as struggling — writers whom others can emulate, and they foster the commitment to service by their own example as they serve the Peace Corps community.
