Phil Akre (Libya 1968–69, Tunisia 1969–71) taught English and social studies at the primary, pakresecondary, and university levels for three years in Libya and Tunisia. He is Assistant Director of the Graduate Program in International Affairs at The New School in New York City.  He was previously Assistant Director of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Rutgers University.  His career has combined higher education program management with teaching, writing, consulting, and research. Phil has studied and traveled in Europe, the Middle East, Mexico, and the Caribbean, and served as a research intern at the United Nations.
