Peace Corps Writers  publishes a line of books by writers who have served with the Peace Corps either as Volunteers or staff members. These books — fiction, non-fiction, travel, memoir, poetry, etc.—

  • are produced by CreateSpace, a well-known print-on-demand (POD) company,
  • carry the logo of the Peace Corps Writers imprint,
  • are featured on the blog Peace Corps Writers,
  • are sold through Amazon.com.

Your book need not be about the Peace Corps, your Peace Corps experience, or set overseas in the country where you served.

Books by the family and friends of PCVs are welcomed if the subject matter is focused on the experience of the Volunteer or the Peace Corps.

For your book to be published under the Peace Corps Writers imprint
For your book to become part of this publishing venture, your manuscript must first be submitted  to our publisher, Marian Beil, for acceptance.

Peace Corps Writers will not publish books that are rants against host country nationals, other Peace Corps Volunteers, or the Peace Corps agency. We are also not interested in publishing books that have not been edited, are poorly written, or have not been designed for publication in book form.

Once your book has been accepted to be published under the Peace Corps Writers imprint a fee of $150.00 will be charged that will cover the cost of a unique “Peace Corps Writers” ISBN number, the assignment of a unique Peace Corps Writers’ Library of Congress Preassigned Control Number (PCN), rights to use the Peace Corps Writers imprint logo in the production of the book, and inclusion in this  line of books that are promoted by our website, Peace Corps Worldwide.

The fee will be used to support the awards Peace Corps Writers gives annually for the  best books published by Peace Corps writers and photographers in the categories of fiction, non-fiction, Peace Corps memoir, poetry, travel, children and photography. Peace Corps Worldwide receives no other payment or royalty for publishing under the Peace Corps Writers imprint.

Production costs
All production costs — editing, desigh, set-up, printing and distribution — for your book will be paid directly by you to CreateSpace. You may also choose to employ the services of CreateSpace to handle editing, book and cover design, and marketing for your book.

An author may choose to have his or her book edited, designed and prepared for printing by others, but the book must be printed by CreateSpace. Authors who choose to have the editing, book design and layout, and/or cover design done elsewhere, should use great caution in your choices. Any designers should have professional experience in designing for book publication, and we require that your book be copy edited — preferably by several people with some literary experience — and that at least one of those people not be a personal friend.

Each of these factors can ultimately have a great impact on the appeal and readability — and success — of your book.

Your income from your book
All royalties from sales of your book will go directly to you. Peace Corps Writers will not share in your royalties. You will receive 40–80% of the retail sale of your book from the CreateSpace, depending on the distribution channel through which sales are made. Distribution channels include: Amazon.com, CreateSpace Estore (a customizable sales page that allows you to sell directly to customers), and other book outlets. Again, the publishing consultant will be able to apprize you of the numbers.
