There are tools out there to learn about cultures and the latest one is called CultureGPS. It is a tool for the iPhone and iPod Touch that enables you to analyze behavior differences in intercultural encounters and to predict to a certain degree, which interactions evolve when people from different nationalities meet and work together. It supposedly helps you analyze, understand and handle cultural differences. Do you think you could learn about a culture from an iphone or do you have to live in the culture with the people?
