President Obama had to leave the UN conference on global warming early because a major snowfall threatened to close airports on the US east coast. As it turned out he was not able to use his customary helicopter to fly from Andrews Air Field to the White House, but did the trip by car. Is there any wonder that there remains a healthy skepticism about the dangers of “global warming?” Of course the global warming warriors will no doubt attribute the major snow storm to rising temperatures. But then we now know that they are given to reworking the data to achieve the resutls they need.

Leo - Give it up - the “global warming” tag as you no doubt know is a misnomer - we should be saying “global weather extremes” which happen weekly as you know from the news - extreme rain, extreme snow, extreme tsunamis. And we need to be doing something now about the problem on the global and personal levels and everywhere in between.
Way to go, Marian!
Leo, one of the most apparent inpacts of global climate change is the melting of the Arctic ice cap. It is difficult to predict how this will impact weather. One model strongely suggests that the fresh water draining into the North Atlantic will reduce the salinity of the ocean, causing the Gulf Stream to sink deeper and reducing the amount of warmth it brings to Northern Europe, resulting in a mini-ice age in Northern Europe. I don’t suggest that the current blizzard is due to that, but just that climate change may be having all kinds of impact.
Increased drought and scarity of water as glaciers melt is another consequence occuring now. In Colorado, the snow banks which we depend on for water, are evaporating quicker in the spring, reducing the amount of water in our watershed.
Science can reconstruct the past far easier than it can forecast the future. But, we must do the very best with the data we have and the predictions currently available.
Marian
Tsunamis are caused by seismic action, not the weather.
