Dear Concetta,
I am 17 years old, live on Guam, and I’m about to test for my GED. After my 18th birthday(late this year) I wish to take part in the Peace Corps. Any information on how to go about that?

Dear Nia:
Hi there. Thanks for your message and for your great question. Here’s the thing- there are basically 2 overriding principles that determine where Peace Corps sends volunteers.
- Peace Corps only goes to countries that have requested volunteers and
- Peace Corps only does what they are asked to do.
What does this mean for you? At least 95% of the time host countries request volunteers with a college degree. So the great news is that you can still become a Peace Corps volunteer. It just might be a bit later than you had hoped. Good luck with your GED and keep going with your education.
All the best,
Concetta

what degrees are most recommended volunteers should have by the host countries that request the peace corps help?
I have a similar situation. I’m considering a gap year after highschool, but after researching, realized Peace Corps would he out of the picture right now. So, do you have any recommendations of other programs akin to Peace Corps, that fresh out of highschoolers can volunteer in? Anything outside of the US preferably.
Thanks, Sheila
Hey. I’m currently in 9th grade but am looking towards being in the Peace Corps. I understand that I have to continue High School and go through college but is there any organization with the same goals that I may be eligable to participate in?
