Day 14 of my Boycott of TSA and the Airlines

So excited you’re still with me!

I’ve had some low moments thinking of all I’ve been missing, and getting the photos to prove it.  What about next year’s vacation?  We’d already started plans to go to Chile–we’d have to fly!  What was I thinking?!

Today’s substitute cyber-journey takes me on a meandering as I try to find my way inside a shift of consciousness.

We have to get back to the least common denominator:  Inalienable rights– and the truth that the job of government is to secure them, not grant them.

And you might awake one morning and find that nature is a part of you, literally internal to your being. You are not just a part of nature, nature is a part of you. And for just that reason, you treat nature as you would treat your lungs or your kidneys. A spontaneous environmental ethics surges forth from your heart, and you will never again look at a river, a leaf, a deer, a robin, in the same way.
- Ken Wilber

The Spiral Dynamics group predicts three possible futures for humanity at this time.

  1. A massive regression back to our stone-age beginnings if we fail to stabilize our world’s weapons and endangered resources
  2. A version of George Orwell’s 1984, embodied in forms of BLUE-ORANGE-GREEN tyrannical, manipulative government
  3. The emergence of a Second Tier approach to business and society which would be fundamentally different from the one we know today, a holistic order of being focused on the good living of all entities as integrated systems.

The possibility is immense and intense and it is a conscious choice I make each day to align with it, rather than stay inside old ways of being and knowing.  People are shifting and I can band with them instead.

There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root. - Henry David Thoreau

“And herein lies the problem. The lethal misunderstanding is that the “collective” - which is just a term for the idea of a group, should have more say than the individual. The collective, however is just an abstraction, a concept. The individual is real! At the human level, the fundamental wholeness, the quantum, the basic torus energy field, is the individual person - not a group.

Wrongly assuming the rights of the collective to be more important than the individual has always lead to tyranny and is the operative underpinning of all governments and ultimately responsible for most of the death and destruction on the planet.”

“You can avoid reality, but you cannot avoid the consequences of avoiding reality.”- Ayn Rand

This is why I chose as I did, why I sometimes feel regret to the point of tears, and feel powerful to the point of feeling myself re-fashioning my neural pathways toward possibility.  Like a teenager who believes the world is her oyster meets the saint destined on a sacred path meets the seeker in tireless pursuit.

I don’t think I realized until just this day that I’ve been hard-wired to avoid reality and it takes a lot more than a wake up call to get me past my routines and accepted beliefs.  My worldview is as global and liberal-bordering-on-radical as they come, and it still takes an entire system overhaul for me to each day FACE the reality and then focus not on the lack and the problems, but on potentials and solutions.  I have an easy time pointing fingers.  I have an easy time being critical.  I have a really easy time recognizing the lack.  I am an expert at IGNORING.  What needs to happen in the collective must first happen in the individual, en masse.

What happens when I stop focusing on the lack?  That’s pretty evolutionary.  I shift my state of awareness from what needs to be fixed to what I can offer toward a solution.  It is absolutely a shift in consciousness.  To stop approaching life from the place of:  ”Here’s what’s wrong, somebody fix it!”  To focus on: “Here’s what I can fix and how.”  This is a crucial shift and I think young people especially are getting it, and that inspires the rest of us to get up to speed.  It’s not an easy shift for me, but I’m aided tremendously by others, particularly Feminine Power.

The best thing about teaching for me is staying in touch with young people, or older ones with inspiring plans.  The consensus the past semesters in my Spanish classes has been “Diversity is cool!” Now that might not feel all that new in concept until I mention also that my students are primarily military and that another good bunch of them come from staff at Wal-mart.

What’s happening now with the TSA and all to do with this Terrorist Watch List is called profiling, and if it isn’t illegal, then it absolutely should be.  No person is a profile.  That just sounds like common sense to all kinds of folks.

Follow this blog for the next 12 days and really consider if all this Terrorist Watching is making you feel any safer.
