I will be writing about health care issues — what the current status is of the health reform legislation in Congress, what is ultimately passed, what it means for all of us, what still needs to be done to improve our health care system. There is no question in my mind that what Congress will pass will only be the beginning of a decades-long effort to strengthen and improve how we pay for and deliver health care in this country. I worked on the Clinton health reform effort and have helped to blog on health reform for the Obama campaign, and I believe that we are embarked on a very exciting period of change. I will also comment on new treatments for various diseases and how ordinary folks can interpret the evidence of whether these treatments work or not. — Linda Bergthold

Right on Linda. Our problem was that our expectations for Obama were too high as were his expectations of Republicans' willingness to work for the common good instead of political advantage. He was too slow in learning that lesson.

Now, the House Dems individually have to take a page from JFK's book and become profiles in courage. If they are motivated only by fear for their political careers, they stand a much better chance in November running on the Senate bill than having nothing to show for a year in office while people lost their homes, jobs and health.

They don't have to worry though. If they lose the election, they still have 75% tax payor paid health care for them and their families until they become Medicare eligible. That's a sweet deal most Americans would love to be part of.
