  • There was a great cartoon in “El Tiempo” the Bogota newspaper. which was reprinted in the Colombian PC newsletter.
I don’t have it. Perhaps one of the pioneers from Colombia may remember it.

In Colombia, the children were always “begging” with the phrase “Da me un centavo” Give me a penny. Volunteers never gave money. This was a three section cartoon, as I recall. In the first section, the child is saying to a “gringo”, “Da me un centavo.” In the section section, the “gringo” says “Soy Cuerpo de Paz”. In the final section, the child is giving a centavo to the gringo! Just remembering still brings tears to my eyes.

PS. We didn’t wear high heels!
